Geta are a very strong Japanese archetype. They were the subject of the debate around how much design can tell about the culture and ourselves. We were 24 students from 11 different countries, only two of them from Japan. A precious encounter to play around meanings and poetic qualities of an artefact. We played with the archetype to understand the limits of its recognition and the possibilities that these changes opened. By changing shapes and materials, we effectively gave new meanings to geta and the opportunity to suggest new behaviours. We really enjoyed the process.
